2 And He said to them, “Whenever you pray, say, ‘Father— let[a] Your name be treated-as-holy. Let Your kingdom come. 3 Be giving us each day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins, for we also are forgiving everyone being indebted to us. And do not bring us into a temptation[b]’”.

  1. Luke 11:2 That is, make it a reality that Your name is treated as holy. These five requests are in the form of a command (as usual), with a change of grammar on the third request. ‘Let’ does not mean ‘allow’.
  2. Luke 11:4 That is, a situation in which we will be tempted by the evil one. Or, a testing, a trial.
